Olarro Tented Camp Masai Mara

Olarro Camp is an eco-lodge located on Maji Moto Group ranch, 150,000 acres of private wilderness, with rolling hills of bush-land; savannah valleys and spreading acacias trees. It is a unique environment, where the Masai pastoralists co-exist peacefully with wild animals. Olárrò ("buffalo" in Maa, the Maasai language) Camp is perched on a vantage point - 2'000 meters - in the scenic Loita Hills, offering superb views of the Maasai Mara plains.
 
Olarro Tented Camp is located in Maji Moto Group Ranch - Maasai Mara conservation area - Kenya. Access by the nearest airstrip is Siana about 40 minutes drive from Olarro Camp and by road it’s about 185 Kms from Nairobi.
 
Olarro Tented Camp and Environs
There is usually plenty of game to enjoy, as well as a diversity of bird species. Olarro is an ecotourism lodge with great benefit for the local Maasai community. The Maasai families benefit directly as they are employed as waiters, cooks room-stewards as well as trackers and guides. The local Maasai Community also benefits from a contribution, which is included in the daily room rates.

Accommodation at Olarro Tented Camp comprises of 8 round cottages The room décor & amenities at Olarro Tented Camp the 8 round cottages, in African style with grass- thatch roofs. Each cottage has en-suite shower/WC with hot and cold water. Energy is supplied by solar power.The open-plan main building houses the comfortable lounge, bar and dining areas. The cottages, constructed using only local materials, are perched on a vantage point on a hillside offering superb panoramic views over the Masai Mara plains.

Olarro Camp is known for its personal service and delicious continental cuisine, with plenty of fresh herbs from the Camp’s garden, as well as homemade pastas and freshly baked breads. Your Host, Sean Hartley has spent his life managing exclusive camps as well as escorting tourists into the African bush in his native Kenya. He is also a professional Guide and instructor. His wife Judy Anne is an excellent chef.

  • Escorted walks with a professional guide and knowledgeable Maasai Trackers
  • Day or night game viewing drives in custom-built 4 x 4 vehicles with open top.
  • Read a book on the viewing platform overlooking a waterhole, or take a dip in the three plunge-pools.
  • Enjoy picnics in the bush, or sundowners on a hill as you watch a golden sunset.
  • Sit round the campfire after dinner; drink in hand, and listen to Sean’s African experiences…
  • With permission from the Village Chief, guests may be permitted to visit the local Maasai Manyatta, (homestead)
