Lake Nyasa is a Fresh Water Lake found in the Great Rift Valley, Tanzania Lake Nyasa is also known as Lake Malawi, the Tanzanian side of Lake Nyasa borders the Livingstone Mountains and stretches out towards Malawi and Mozambique. Lake Nyasa or Lake Malawi occupies the Southern Rift Valley which drains into the Zambezi River. Marking the course of the Western Rift Valley are Lakes Tanganyika, Kivu, Edward, and Albert—the first two of which are situated within the drainage basin of the Congo Most of the lakes in the rift system are deep and fjord like, some with their floors well below sea level.
