Lake Albert is found in the Great Rift Valley, Uganda in East Africa and the lake lays at an altitude of 615 m sandwiched by two parallel escarpments, the western side that rises suddenly to nearly 2,000 m above the water surface. The lake is about 150 km long, with an average width of about 35 km.The maximum depth of the lake is 56 m within 7 km of the mid-western shore. The chief inflow is at the south end through the Semliki River that leaves Lake Edward through the western edge of the great Ituri rain forest in Zaire with increased water from the streams on northern slopes of the Rwenzori.most of the inflows into the lake from the escarpments are seasonal and contribute very little due to the size of the catchments which is small.
