Kenya is one of the richest countries in avifauna in the world. This is due to a wider variety of interlinking and rich biodiversity. These Kenyabirdingholidayafarisranges from the snow-caped mountain, open and thicket grasslands, tropical rain forests, fresh and Saline inland lake, coastal shores to vast larger surface of savannas. All these are interconnected into a web of ecosystem that supports large species of bird life. The sites also attract a vast number of both Eurasian and afro tropical migrating birds that add to a larger number of local resident birds, making the country also rich in biological diversity.

Kenyan boarders other countries with unique biodiversity, creating interesting biomes that contribute immensely to our species diversity. Ugandan forests for example links Kenya (Kakamega Forest) with the lowland tropical Guinea Congolian rain forests found in the in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The Kakamega forest therefore holds different but species that are found no where else in the world. To the south The Taita hills and the Arabuko Sokoke forests holds the largest endemic bird species in the region, some of which share the boundaries with the Tanzania Eastern Arc Mountains. To the North, The Somali biome species such as the Somali Ostrich, Williams’s Lark, Golden-breasted Starling and Donaldson Smith Sparrow Weavers. These are species that extend their range from Somali to the northern part of Kenya (Samburu, Shaba and Isiolo).

For a smaller sized country equivalent to Texas State in the USA, a total of 1090 bird species have been recorded in Kenya.  This makes it one of the world's most fascinating birding destinations for most bird lovers. The country has designated 60 important Bird Areas (IBAS).  The programme aims to identify and protect a network of sites, at a bio-geographic scale, critical for the long-term viability of naturally occurring bird populations. IBA is a world wide initiative coordinated by Birdlife International that seeks to conserve birds and their habitats, through partnership with other organizations across the world. It is for this reason that Africa Partners in Safari seeks to work close with their initiative in promoting conservation as well satisfying the birds’ niche. Important Bird Areas are critical sites for the conservation of bird populations, and other animals and plants. IBAs have been identified all over the world. The, 60 sites qualified as IBAs are in 4 categories, which are within under internationally agreed scientific criteria.

1. Globally threatened birds, with local such as the Sokoke Scops Owl in Arabuko-Sokoke Forestkenyabirdingwatchingsafari

2. Restricted distribution, such as Hinde’s Babbler, found only in bushy river valleys in central and eastern Kenya and nowhere else

3. Extreme large congregations of particular birds, such as the Lake Nakuru with lesser flamingoes the pelicans, and storks,

4. Larger numbers of species dependent on a particular ecosystem, such as moist highland grasslands

A number of bird species are endemic to especially those that are found in the range restricted areas. Birds are better indicators in richer biodiversity of a given area as well as the health status and changes in the environment. In Kenya, Important Bird Areas are indicators sites of other richer texas besides the birds.
When Africa Partners in safari takes you for a Kenya holiday Birding safari or Kenya Watching Expeditions this are some of the places that you will visit Kenya  Important Birding Areas.

Our birding professionals have the wealth of knowledge and experience gained across Africa and the world over. This always adds great and memorable life time experience to our visitors’ satisfaction. Our itineraries are tailor made to suite your birding expectations and beyond.  Our birding trips within the IBAS are designed to Bird Walks in remote areas where there less numbers of tourists, and where we don’t spend long hours of exhaustive drives on the roads. We have unlimited bird walks along forest trails and around the lodges where we can watch and listen to birds and other wildlife. Such expeditions and excursions our day’s birding is never complete without compiling of a checklist of all the birds and animals observed during the day. This is handled by our guides together with the clients. By the end of the trip you know exactly how many birds recorded in different sites.
