KILIMANJARO CLIMB-MARANGU ROUTE Mount Kilimanjaro is Africa's Highest Mountain. Mount Kilimanjaro is a perfectly shaped volcano isl inactive rising sheer from the plains. At 5895m it is the highest in Africa and is snow capped. Mount Kilimanjaro can be climbed any time of the year but there is usually a lot more rain during April, May and November. At the lower levels, you will pass through cultivated farmlands rising through tropical rain forest onto alpine meadows and finally the barren landscape leading to the snow and ice capped summit. The lower levels also offer the chance to view a wide variety of animals, birds and flora in their natural habitat. MT. KILIMANJARO CLIMB-MARANGU ROUTE 8 DAYS 7 NIGHTS (6DAYS ON THE MOUNTAIN)
It takes 6 days and five nights to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa. No climbing experience is needed. The mountain can be climbed all year round and the highest peak Kibo, is 6,447m/19342ft. Uhuru peak (Gilman's Point) is 6212m.
DAY ONE: NAIROBI - ARUSHA Travel to Arusha from Nairobi. Dinner and overnight in a Hotel in Arusha or pickup from Kilimanjaro Airport and transfer to a hotel for an overnight stay DAY TWO: KILIMANJARO CLIMB: MARANGU - MANDARA HUT After breakfast transfer clients to the Park entrance at the base of Mt. Kilimanjaro - MARANGU GATE and start the climb through rain forests and flowers to Mandara Hut with the assistance of Guides and Porters. This distance is covered in 3 or 4 hours walks. Lunch boxes will be provided. Dinner and overnight at Mandara Hut (2700m) near the Maundi Crater. DAY THREE: MANDARA - HOROMBO HUT After breakfast, at about 8.00 am, start your walk going past the Maundi Crater and through the rain forest, after which the Landscape changes dramatically to open rolling Moorlands. The change in altitude begins to make itself felt. It is a difficult two hundred and fifty meters walk but we continue slowly and enjoy the plant life and the view. The walk takes you 7-8 hrs, to Horombo at 3720m. Dinner and overnight at Horombo Hut. DAY FOUR: HOROMBO - ACCLIMATIZE OPTIONAL acclimatization Day Acclimatization day you Horombo hut will be your base, this will enhance your chances of mounting to the summit . You hike out past Zebra Rocks to Mawenzi hut that takes about 3 hours to ascend, and a further one and half hours for the descend back to Horombo hut. Drink enough water and move at a slowly pace. Retire early and get plenty of night’s sleep and rest –conserve all the energy for you will need it in the next couple of days. All meals for the day are provided at the Horombo hut. DAY FIVE: HOROMBO - KIBO HUT After early breakfast continue the hike seeing mutant such as the cactus-like Giant Groundsell. We reach the last water point in about an hour. After 2 hours later the scenery changes as you come to the Kibo Saddle, a broad desert between Kibo and Mawenzi peaks which supports only a few tough grasses and flightless insects. It takes about 6-7 hrs. To reach Kibo at 4703m. Dinner and overnight at Kibo Hut.
DAY SIX : KIBO - UHURU PEAK - HOROMBO HUT To be able to reach the summit before sunrise we start early at about 1:00am. It takes about 5 hrs to climb the steepest and most demanding part of the route to Gilman's Points at 5865m on the Crater's Rim. If snow conditions permits you start the final push walk to Uhuru Peak -which takes 45 minutes - the highest point in Africa at 5896m. Thereafter walk back to Horombo Hut for Dinner and overnight.
DAY SEVEN: HOROMBO - ARUSHA After Breakfast walk down to Marangu gate and transfer to Arusha for dinner and overnight.
DAY EIGHT: ARUSHA - NAIROBI Transfer to Kilimanjaro Airport for your home bound flight or continue with your safari schedule/travel back to Nairobi on board a shuttle bus.
