Day 1: Nairobi – Samburu game reserve Depart from Nairobi at 08 00 hrs for the hot and dry semi arid deserts and one of the most dramatic African wildernesses. Arrive in the Samburu National Reserve at the Samburu Intrepids by time for lunch. Late afternoon embark on a game drive to view endemic wildlife species like the Reticulated Giraffe, Grevy's Zebra, Beisa Oryx and the Blue-necked Somali ostrich. Dinner and overnight will be at the impressive Samburu Intrepids or similar
Day 2: Samburu Game Reserve Today you will spend the full day in the Samburu National Park. You will have early morning and evening game drives. All your meals and overnight will be at your Samburu Lodge or Samburu Serena Lodge
Samburu Game Reserve
The Samburu National Reserve located on the banks of the Ewaso Ngiiro River in Kenya, across the river is the Buffalo Spring National Reserve and the Shaba in the northern Kenya formerly known as the Northern frontier district. To get to Samburu you pass on the shoulder of the seconded highest peak in Africa after Mt Kilimanjaro, Mount Kenya and drive northwards to the vastness of the northern Kenya, stretching into the distant horizon clouded by dust and heat-haze. This hot and dry semi arid deserts is one of the most dramatic African wilderness nurtured by the Ewaso Ngiro river which flows through the reserve The reserve is rich in wildlife and with abundance of rare northern specialist species such as the gravy’s Zebra, reticulated giraffe, Beisa Oryx, Longneck Gerenuk, Somali Ostrich also known as the Samburu Special Five. The reserve is also home to a minimum of 900 Elephants. Wild dog are common in this protected area. Large predators such as the Lion king of the jungle lazing on the grass, Leopards, Cheetah, are some of the important attractions. Kamuyak the miracle lioness that adopted a baby oryx lives here at Samburu National Reserve. Birdlife is abundant with over 450 spices recorded
Day 3: Samburu – Sweetwater’s Game Sanctuary Depart soon after breakfast and you view game as we exit the park and drive to Mount Kenya Region. Lunch at a Sweetwater’s tented camp then proceed for afternoon game drives at Sweetwater’s sanctuary. Dinner and overnight at the Sweetwaters Tented Camp Sweetwater’s is Kenya only sanctuary for rehabilitation in Kenya of these broadly abused chimpanzees with two groups living in an environment as close to their natural habitat as possible. The site is also a dedicated black rhino breeding haven. Day 4: Mt.Kenya – Lake Nakuru National park Depart the lodge after breakfast for Lake Nakuru National Park arriving in time for lunch at Lake Nakuru Lodge or Sarova Lion Hill. Full afternoon game drives followed by dinner and overnight stay at a lodge.
Lake Nakuru's claim to fame is based on its flamingo's and the over 400 species of birds found here. The lake itself is a soda lake on the floor of the rift valley. The sight of the at times millions of flamingos is quite spectacular. From a distance the lake appears ringed in pink. The Park is an important haven for endangered species chiefly the Rothschild Giraffe and the black and white rhino. Lions, waterbuck, buffalo and baboons are all residents here.
Day 5: Lake Nakuru – Lake Naivasha Breakfast at leisure before driving to Lake Naivasha to visit the Hells Gate National Park one of the few parks in Kenya that can be explored on foot or you could also cycle around the park Optional boat ride to Crescent Island can be arranged or bike cycling in the park. Dinner and overnight at Naivasha Sopa Lodge Day 6: Lake Naivasha – Maasai Mara Drive via the East Africa Great Rift Valley to arrive at Maasai Mara by lunch time at a Lodge. Full afternoon game drive until dusk before returning to Masai Mara Sopa Lodge or Keekorok lodge for dinner and overnight stay. Day 7: Maasai Mara Full day spent exploring the park in search of the big 5 - Optional balloon safari can be arranged at an extra cost of US$ 450 per person Masai Mara Annual Wildlife Migration, Great Annual Wildlife Migration, Masai Mara Wildebeeste Migration Masai Mara The Masai Mara Game Reserve offers wildlife in such diverse and abundance that it is difficult to believe: over 450 species of animals have been recorded here. You will easily see lions, rhinos, hippos, crocodiles, giraffe, wildebeests, zebras, buffalo, warthogs, hyenas, jackals, wild dogs, buffalo, leopard, many kinds of antelopes and elephant. It is in the Mara that perhaps the most extraordinary event of the natural world takes place. This is the annual migration of millions of wildebeest and zebra from the Serengeti Tanzania in search of water and pasture. Following in hot pursuit are the predators of the savanna- lion, cheetah, wild dog, jackal, hyena and vultures. Day 8: Maasai Mara -Nairobi Pre-breakfast game drives to see the few animals that might not have been sighted as yet. Return to the Lodge/Tented Camp for breakfast then leave the Wildlife sanctuary of the Mara traveling towards Nairobi, which is reached in the early afternoon. The evening is spent at leisure and after a complimentary dinner at the famous Carnivore Restaurant, we proceed to the airport for our journey back home.
