Climbing  the Second highest mountain in Africa, Mount Kenya is a challenge requiring extensive mountain climbing skills. To climb to the highest peaks, Batian and Nelion, one requires ropes, ice-axes and other specialized climbing gear. The two peaks can be attempted by experienced climbers. Non-experienced climbers have managed to reach point Lenana 4,970 meters ( 16,300ft) commonly called the "Tourist Peak". Nevertheless, most visitors are able to reach the more accessible Point Lenana at 4985m and many visitors enjoy the simple high altitude walks.

5 Days on Mt Kenya

Day 1: Nanyuki
In the morning we leave Nairobi driving north accompanied by our mountain guide. After a drive of two and a half-hours we arrive in Nanyuki where we spend the night in one of the lodges at the foot of Mt. Kenya.

At this high elevation, the scenery of forest moorland and glaciers is spectacular. As you trek you will meet with colobus monkey, elephant or buffalo. This walk takes you up the mountain via the Sirimon route with unforgettable scenes of the diverse vegetation. You will also touch ice and snow on the equator!


Day 2: Sirimon track
A short drive in the morning will take us to the Sirimon track. We start our trek. We walk to Old Moses Camp (5 hours walk). Overnight at old Moses Camp (3,400m).


Day 3: Mackinders Valley
Our hike takes us via Mackinder's Valley to Shipton's Camp (5 hours walk). Night at Shipton's Camp (4,200m).


Day 4: Point Lenana
Early in the morning we climb Point Lenana (4,985m). On a very clear day we should be able to see Mt.Kilimanjaro in the south. From the top, we walk down to the Meteorological Station (6-7 hours walk). Night at the bandas at the Met. Station.


Day 5: Nairobi
After a morning walk we catch the bus/taxi back to Nairobi where we arrive late afternoon.
