Hell's Gate National Park Highlights: Fischer's Tower, formerly a volcano's plug, the Central Tower and Njorowa Gorges. Two extinct volcanoes: Olkaria and Hobley's are worth a trip. Natural steam vents rise from fissures in the volcanic rock. Obsidian, a striking black glassy rock formed from cooled molten lava is a feature of this landscape. Game to view includes: buffalo, Masai Giraffe, eland, Coke's Hartebeest, lion, leopard and some cheetah. A haven for ornithologists and rock climbers, the cliffs of Hell's Gate are breeding grounds for vultures, Verreaux's Eagles, augur buzzard and thousands of swifts; 103 species of bird have been recorded in the Park.
Hell's Gate National Park has an area of 68.25 km2 and lies beside Lake Naivasha about 90 km from Nairobi and it’s named derived from its pair of massive red tinged cliffs. The park is situated 14 km after the turnoff from the old Nairobi-Naivasha highway. It is characterized by various topography and geological vista and it is an important home of the lammergeyer. The park is Famous for its natural hot geysers, eagle, buzzard and vulture breeding grounds. Over 100 species of birds have been recorded in the park and thousands of Swifts are seen daily in large flocks. Visitors have a choice of driving or walking within the park, Rock climbing and horseback safaris can also be arranged The highest of the Rift Valley lakes, Naivasha's incredibly blue waters reflect off sun-drenched mountains. Naivasha is the second largest freshwater lake in Kenya and is an unusual lake in that it has no known outlet which normally a prerequisite for a freshwater lake. Naivasha meaning rough water which explains the twirling inland winds which send 'dust devils' whirling wildly across the plains into the lake making it are ideal for sailing, set on the north side at the foot of Mount Longonot (2 776m). The lake has an area of 140km² within the Great Rift Valley nearby Hell's gate Gorge & Elsamere. The lake is an important source of water and supports the regions economic activities that include farming, horticulture, geothermal power generation, fishing and tourism. The fishing is good for black bass and tilapia. It was on Lake Naivasha that East Africa's first air-passengers used to land in the flying boats of Imperial Airways. Game viewing includes: giraffe, buffalo, Colobus monkeys, large lazy hippos, hartebeest, lion, leopard and cheetah. Birdlife at the lake includes Long-tailed and Great Cormorants, Fish Eagles and Pied Kingfishers, Black Herons, Babblers and Lovebirds major attractions
