Animal Orphanage Nairobi Education Centre

Nairobi Education Centre Animal Orphanage -Kenya Wildlife ServiceNairobi Education Centre Animal Orphanage the oldest National Park in East Africa and is situated about 10km south west of the city centre of Nairobi. This unique facility was established on 16th December 1946as a refuge and rehabilitation of animals found abandoned or injured. Animals receive medical checkup followed by treatment before undergoing rehabilitation. Wildlife found in the orphanage includes Lion, Cheetah, Hyena, Jackal, Serval Cat, Warthog, Leopard, Ostrich, Baboons, Monkeys and Buffalo. Endemic birdlife are parrots, guinea fowl, and crown crane among others. At the main entrance to the park is the Wildlife Conservation Education Centre established in 1964 which plays the role of educating public on wildlife and nature conservation in Kenya. The education programmes at the Education Centre helps the participants understand of the interrelationships and coexistence among human activities and the environment aimed at reducing human wildlife conflict. The objectives of the Nairobi Education Centre with the other established education centres in the field have the responsibility of: - Educating the public about Wildlife and, Environmental conservation in Kenya.
- Increasing peoples' understanding of their wildlife and eco-systems and the value placed upon them. This aims at creating public awareness, appreciation concern and support for wildlife conservation.
- Providing Wildlife Conservation and Management information to local and foreign visitors in the Parks, Reserves and other tourist destinations.
